Tinnitus is frightening in large part because reliable, understandable information is so hard to find. You search at 2am, you leave appointments with nothing actionable, and most of what you find online is either fear or false promises. Naluma exists to close that gap: evidence-based information you can actually use, honest about what we don’t yet know, and free of the miracle cures that fill the rest of the internet.
Where the name comes from
Naluma is built from two roots. Nada (नाद) is Sanskrit for the primordial sound — the tone that has always been there. Luma carries two meanings at once: to settle in and take root, and light that illuminates from within. Together: the sound that settles; the sound that becomes light.
The name begins with the sound rather than fleeing from it. That is deliberate. Naluma does not promise silence. It stands for the journey in which the sound finds its right place: still there, but no longer in front of everything. The sound isn’t going anywhere. But neither are you.
Who is behind Naluma

I’m Jens, the founder of Naluma. In November 2024 I developed tinnitus myself. At the start I almost despaired. Suddenly there is this sound in your ear that won’t go away, and no one can tell you whether it will ever get better.
I sought medical advice and started reading everything I could: studies, treatment approaches, the experiences of other people. Over roughly the next year and a half I learned, step by step, to live with the tinnitus until it no longer ran my life. Today I live well with it.
Along the way it became clear to me how many people are in the same situation, and how hard it is to find information that is both trustworthy and understandable. That is exactly what I want to change with Naluma. I pass on what I have learned and make well-researched, evidence-based knowledge accessible to everyone.
Professionally I have been building digital content products since 2007. I founded NetMoms, one of the largest German-language online communities for families, and I was Managing Director at the FOCUS Online Group. From that work I bring two things that shape Naluma: the experience of making health topics understandable for a wide audience, and the product craft to turn that into something genuinely useful.
One thing matters to me: I am not a doctor. I write as someone who is personally affected and who has read deeply.
What Naluma stands for
- Evidence over anecdote. Every claim traces back to current research or established clinical guidance, and we tell you where it comes from.
- Honest about uncertainty. Tinnitus has no universal cure. We won’t pretend otherwise, and we’ll say so plainly when the science is still thin.
- No fear, no false hope. We don’t sell supplements, devices or “tricks.” Our job is to inform and empower, not to frighten you into a purchase.
- Plain language, real empathy. Written by someone who has sat where you’re sitting, for people who are often in distress, not for search engines.
- Access for everyone. The same quality of information, in every language we publish.
How we create and check our content
We want to be completely open about how Naluma’s articles are made, including where artificial intelligence is involved and where a human takes over. We use AI to help us research and draft at a scale and speed we could not otherwise reach. We do not let AI decide what is true or what gets published. Every article passes through the same pipeline, and a human is always in the loop before anything goes live.
- Content plan. We start by mapping the whole landscape of tinnitus questions into a deliberate plan, organised around five themes: understanding tinnitus, living with it, evidence-based treatments, myths and unproven remedies, and recovery and habituation. This is how we make sure our coverage is intentional and complete, rather than chasing whatever is easy to write about.
- Primary research. For each topic we gather and read the current scientific literature and clinical guidance, peer-reviewed studies, guidelines and reputable medical sources. We record those sources so that every claim in an article can be traced back to where it came from.
- Writing. We draft each article with the help of AI language models, working strictly from the research we have gathered and in Naluma’s plain, empathetic voice. The draft is a starting point, not a finished article.
- Quality gates. Every draft then has to pass a series of automated checks before a human will even look at it: a factual-accuracy check against the cited sources, a check that the sources themselves are high quality, a readability check so the article stays understandable, and a style check that strips out hype and vague fillers.
- Human review and approval. Nothing publishes automatically. A person reviews each article, applies editorial judgement, sends it back for changes when needed, and makes the final decision to publish. A human is accountable for everything that carries the Naluma name.
- Medical review. For medical topics, accuracy is checked by qualified healthcare professionals on our review board (see below). We are building this board now, and articles will carry the reviewer’s name once it is in place.
- Keeping it current. Medicine moves. We revisit and update articles as new research and guidance appear, and we correct anything we get wrong.
Our medical review board
Lived experience and careful research are the foundation of Naluma, but for medical questions that is not enough on its own. That is why our content is checked for accuracy by qualified healthcare professionals: audiologists, clinical psychologists and ENT specialists who know these topics first-hand.
We are currently building up this review board. As reviewers join, you will find them here with their credentials and professional profiles, and you will see the name of the reviewer on the articles they have checked.
